Topwater lures for dummies?

I got a new 2 inch rapala countdown original floating Topwater Lure and i havent really caught too much fish with it. I fish it in a 190 acre pond with good amounts of cover and structure that i fish around but still dont catch anything. What am i doing wrong?

I think what "Grand Master Basser" is trying to say is- You mention a "Countdown Original Floating Topwater lure" ; a "countdown" and an "original floater" are 2 different types of Rapala's. One sinks and one floats.

However, I'm guessing you've got a floater.

The general way to fish an original floating Rapala as a topwater is:

A. Cast as far away from you as possible, (esp to bassy-looking structure or weedlines).

B. Let the lure rest until the circular ripples it creates when it hits the water almost disappear.

C. Make a downward motion "jerk" with your rod causing the Rapala to dive and "pop-up" suddenly.

D. Repeat

E. The strike will usually occur during the "pause".

In my opinion, an original Rapala isn't really a "Topwater lure".

A MUCH better (real) Topwater lure would be a Heddon Super Spook Jr or a Rapala "Skitter-pop".
